Chinchilla is a sweet, fluffy pet

You want to have a pet, but you just can not decide which one you like, as well as the possibilities? In the conditions of small apartments, small, but infinitely cute and charming, rodents from South America, chinchillas are becoming increasingly popular.

Previously, these animals lived only in a wild environment, by the way, in nature they were very few, because of which the chinchilla was listed in the Red Book. Today, these rodents are bred on farms because of their valuable fur, they also began to spread as cute pets, and this is no accident!

Likes nuts

After all, chinchillas are very clever, affectionate and loyal to their master creatures, plus, to all, the owners' testimonies say that, provided they are properly taken care of, they do not cause almost any problems!

In captivity, the life span of such animals can be from 15 to 20 years, but only with proper care and maintenance, the features of which must be known in advance, otherwise you can be very disappointed and not cope with the domestic chinchilla.

These charming babes are able to lift their spirits, are inquisitive and mobile, and therefore it is always very interesting to watch them. Chinchillas are kind and affectionate pets, they never scratch or bite, unless, of course, they are insulted and hurt.

Interesting color

The closest relative of this rodent are porcupines, although they are outwardly completely different, chinchillas are much more similar to proteins or guinea pigs, both externally and under conditions of detention, although, in fact, they have no direct relationship.

These different chinchillas

Recently, probably due to its popularity among the breeders, a large number of different colors of chinchillas have appeared, depending on the breed and the area of habitation. Choose the one that you prefer: pink velvet, blue diamond, sapphire, violet, Gold Bar and many others.

Content Features

Before you go to the store or kennel for a small baby, you need to prepare a cozy house for him, because chinchillas are social creatures, they can not stand solitude, and also very anxious about their own corner.

To do this, you will most likely have to get a good spacious cage or shop window, which must be equipped in a special way: several shelves at different heights, so that the animal can jump and run for pleasure, a small house for sleeping, as well as a feeder, which is either firmly attached to the rods, or installed on the bottom.

In the last version it is important that it is sufficiently heavy and the rodent can not move it and move it around the cage.

If you purchased a cage, then remember that the distances between the rods should not exceed 1.5 cm, otherwise the young ones risk climbing between them.

Pretty

A rather deep pull-out tray is installed below, special sawdust is used as a “floor”, which is enough to be cleaned 1-2 times in 2 weeks, since the chinchilla is a very clean animal. That is why it is important to ensure that the house is always clean, the “litter” must be fresh, exactly like food and water, otherwise the animal may refuse to eat and behave sluggishly.

Remember that chinchillas are very afraid of drafts and direct sunlight, and therefore their house must be installed in a shaded, calm and fairly cool place.

The ideal temperature of keeping such pets is 18-20 °, higher temperatures have a negative impact on their health, while lower temperatures cause a decline in activity.

The size of the cage for one adult animal should be at least 50 to 50 cm, better - more, and if you contain several chinchillas, it becomes their vital necessity.

Do not forget that they belong to night animals, and, therefore, their house can not be installed in the bedroom, otherwise the constant rustling and rattles in a cage can cause you a restless sleep. For the same reason, all the internal equipment of the house is better tightened to the walls, otherwise it becomes your pet's nightly toys.

The chinchilla's fur is very soft, but at the same time it is heavily knit, they do not have sweat glands, and, therefore, do not soak in the water, but immediately drown. That is why it is important to remember that these rodents can not be bathed in water!

In order for them to get rid of excess hair, as well as to clean their "fur coat", chinchillas at home need another mandatory procedure - bathing in the sand. Sand should be special, very small, similar to dust, by the way, when caring for such a rodent, it is the main expense item for its maintenance.

Fluffy

This sand has a special name and is sold in specialized stores for animals, since bathing should be done at least 2-3 times a week, then sand is decently consumed: about 500 g per month.

Combing chinchillas is not necessary, except moulting periods. It should be noted that if you do not accustom the baby to this from childhood, then he will be strongly resent and run from the scallop.

Do not forget that in the cage it is necessary to put a tray with a filler, which the rodent can use instead of the toilet. To teach a chinchilla to walk on a tray, simply collect its excrement and put it in an improvised toilet.

Next time the animal will pay attention to the smell and will already go to the right place. Remember that the cage can not be installed in too warm and southern rooms, the ideal temperature for keeping such a pet - 18-20 °.

Feeding

Nutrition chinchillas, like any other pet, should be varied and balanced, most often, for these purposes, use hay and pelleted feed, the choice of which must be approached with all care.

We must not forget about the hay, which is necessary for the normal functioning of the intestine of the rodent. We should not forget about the natural food, which may include dried apples, dandelion and nettle leaves, hawthorn, dried carrot, oat seeds.

Remember that chinchilla can not be given fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs, and a dry apple or a pair of raisins is a treat that should be quite a bit.

Make sure that the drinker always has fresh filtered or bottled water. Feeding should be dosed, the food in the feeder is laid out once a day, usually closer to the evening, since chinchillas are nightly creatures, to a greater extent. A serving for an adult should be 30-40 g of feed.
