Cold Smoked Electric Smokehouse
Making cold-smoking smokehouse
First you need to bring the barrel in the appropriate form. For this we will wash it and clean it of everything superfluous. You can burn the barrel with a burner, and then clean it with a brush on the metal.
Next we mark with masking tape where the doors will be. I will make two doors. One big one at the top is for products, and the other small one at the very bottom is for sawdust and coal removal.
I will cut with a grinder.
But there is a trick here, how to make it easier. To do this, make a slot on the left side of the future door. Then we drill and screw the hinges.
And after that we already saw through the rest of the door. As a result, you will have a clearly suspended door, exactly in the middle.
Everything opens up perfectly.
Installation of the flap and chimney
Drill a hole in the top of the future smokehouse.
We are fastening the chimney with a flap. The lid of the barrel is removed and therefore there are no problems to show you everything.
The damper and chimney can be easily bought in the store of boilers and stoves. There are many choices of different diameters.
The chimney pipe looks very beautiful.
Metal seals with magnetic velcro
In order to close the gaps between the body and doors must be made seals. It will take a thin metal. We mark and cut.
Drill holes and fasten with rivetsor screws with nuts.
We also attach guide racks on which the grates with food inside will lie. The doors will be protected from accidental opening with magnets. To do this, install any magnets that you have in the farm at the corners.
Now the closed door will hold securely and will not open due to wind or vibration. The rack bracket looks like this:
Mounted at a short distance, taking into account the diameter of the grill from the barbecue.
We are using grills.
Making several projections for different distances.
If you fail to find such grates in the store, you can make them yourself by cutting a circle with a grinder from an elastic metal mesh. Or weave from the wire itself.
Painted the entire smokehouse with heat-resistant paint, such are the exhaust pipes and car collectors.
From above, drilled a hole to install a thermocouple so that the electronics can track the temperature.
The thermocouple itself:
The element itself is very small, and this massive metal case is made by me.
The whole set of electronics to control the smokehouse, namely its heating element. I bought everything here - Ali Express. You'll need:
- PID controller.
- Solid State Relay.
- Radiator for Solid State Relay.
All this can be bought in a kit of course, as I did.
Installed an additional thermometer as in the oven.Look for HERE.
Screw the door handles.
The heater element is installed at the very bottom, though I haven’t really fixed it yet.
And this is a sawdust tray and modern pressed briquettes for smoke curlers.
