Bumpy Arms? Keratosis Pilaris: Best Treatment Options - OnlineDermClinic

How to Reduce Keratosis Pilaris

Keratosis pilaris is a condition in which extra protein builds up in your hair follicles, causing rough red bumps to appear on the skin. However, it is fairly easy to mitigate if you treat it every day. Follow the steps below to learn how to reduce keratosis pilaris!

Steps

  1. Use a dry brush before you shower.Brush the affected area(s) with upward strokes (toward yourself) in order to exfoliate dead skin. This also helps your body get rid of toxins and leaves your skin feeling smoother and softer overall.
  2. Shave with moisturizing shaving cream.Razors with moisturizing strips are also very effective for this purpose—the more you saturate your skin, the easier it will be to unblock the follicles.
    • If you don't like shaving, you can wax, but be careful because waxing tends to be a harsher process than shaving.
  3. Use a super intensive moisturizing lotion.Put it on your problem areas as soon as you get out of the shower. In terms of brands, Nivea, Renew Intensive Skin Therapy, and Aveeno lotions are best for easily irritated skin.
  4. Take a multivitamin. This will help you get all the vitamins you need, which could be part of your problem.
  5. Always protect your skin with sunscreen and/or layered clothing when you go outside.

Whenever I shave, my keratosis pilaris becomes red and more noticeable. How do I shave my legs without my skin getting irritated?

Do you use shaving foam or conditioner? If you don't, use one of them, as it helps to soothe your legs and get rid of redness or soreness. It could also be because of your razor, so make sure you are using a quality razor with a decent blade.
