Ivanka Trump Is Reportedly Having a Hard Time With Her White House Role
Amidst the many updates from President Trump's administration last week, one of the most disappointing was his tweeted promise to oust transgender troops from the U.S. military.
Now, a new feature on Politico examines the fallout from this and many other questionable moves by the administration on the president's daughter, Ivanka, who has sought to bill herself as a socially moderate voice — and women's rights advocate — within the administration. (Her Twitter bio includes, "Entrepreneur & advocate for the education & empowerment of women & girls.")
According to cited White House officials, Ivanka allegedly learned about her father's decision like the rest of the world did — on Twitter. In general, the piece alleges that Ivanka is making less of a dent on her father's policy than even she'd expected, citing publicist and Trump family friend R. Couri Hay as saying, "[Ivanka's] in there doing what she can. It's unrealistic, unfair and cruel to expect her to change climate policy and pre-K and women's issues in six months." Of course, six months is no time at all.
Perhaps most interesting about the piece, which Ivanka and husband Jared Kushner declined to comment for, is the reaction from the socialite and fashion community she hails from. (Naturally, these quips were seemingly passed on only under condition of anonymity.) One socialite who'd been friendly with Ivanka shared:
"Everyone knew that Jared's father was a felon and her father was a buffoon, but you looked past that because they stood on their own two feet and were sophisticated and presentable. They were accepted despite their parents. Now, there's no separating the two."
Another old friend, this time from the fashion world, dished on why they thought Ivanka would never break stride with her father's oftentimes controversial and contradictory remarks:
"I know her well enough to know [Ivanka's] relationship with her father, which is that she will never, ever, go against the grain."
And then a purported close friend of the Trump family explained some of the pressures Ivanka's up against:
"She wanted to be the apple of her father's eye.
