This afternoon, President Obama is set to announce that Susan Rice, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, is the new national security adviser, according to a White House official. Tom Donilon, who has held the position since October 2010, is retiring in July. Reports deem the appointment as a major shakeup in Obama's foreign policy team.
The New York Times described the move as "a defiant gesture to Republicans who harshly criticized Ms. Rice for presenting an erroneous account of the deadly attacks on the American mission in Benghazi, Libya." Although a controversial appointment, the change doesn't require Senate approval.

Rice initially came under fire after claiming an anti-Islam film sparked the Benghazi terror attacks in September 2012. When she later retracted that remark, Republicans blamed Rice for "misleading the public…to protect Obama from criticism during a difficult reelection campaign," according toThe Washington Post
. As a result, Rice withdrew her name as candidate for secretary of state in December 2012, but quickly became the favorite for the national security adviser position.

The President isn't the only member of the Obama clan making headlines today. First Lady Michele Obama came face-to-face with a heckler at a fundraising event in Washington, DC, yesterday. The president's wife was mid-speech when Ellen Sturtz, from
GetEQUAL, an LGBT rights group, shouted for an executive order on gay rights in front of a crowd of about 200 people. Mrs. Obama wasn't having it. Leaving the lectern, she told the woman, "Listen to me, or you can take the mic, but I'm leaving. You decide. You have one choice." The crowd made their decision clear, yelling for the protestor to go. Sturtz was escorted out, and the first lady concluded her speech.

Seems like the Obamas know how to take care of business.
